Little Bear Poke Wins Silver in Best of Essex Contest for Best New Restaurant
December 1, 2018
Little Bear Poke will be awarded the 2018 Silver Medal for Best New Restaurant. Little Bear Poke has been voted #2 in Suburban Essex Magazine's Best of Essex contest.
Says owner Bridget Placek, "Little Bear is a labor of love and we are so grateful that so many in our community share our passion for sustainability and freshness. Bringing the foods of our childhood to life in Upper Montclair is a dream come true. Thank you so much for your votes and your support!"
The restaurant, which opened in Montclair in May 2018, focuses on providing food that is fun and feels good to eat. At the heart of their mission is quality and sustainability. Their poke fish is delivered daily, local whenever possible, and always sustainably caught or farmed. The options to customize bowls are varied, many locally-grown.
Other menu favorites include onigiri, traditional Japanese rice balls filled with savory bites. Bubble tea and shave ice, a staple in Hawaii and Japan, are homemade with no artificial colors or flavors and have been featured in Bon Appetit magazine.
Little Bear is a family business, founded by Noelle Hozumi and Bridget Placek, sisters, and David Placek, Bridget’s husband.
