Grill 350: Your Neighborhood Bar and Grill
Nestled in the Wilshire Grand Hotel in West Orange, Grill 350 is a very stylish yet comfortable bar and grill, with food that is worth the trip. The space has been completely re-designed into what owner, Travis Weiss calls a Rustic Industrial look. Both the main dining room and fully stocked bar feature walls of reclaimed wood that complement the tufted retro furniture and exposed vintage I-beams. Antique light fixtures and exposed ductwork inspire images of SoHo. The bar itself is a study in elegance that appears to have been seemingly transported from the poshest of hotel dining rooms, and contrasts with the industrial chic of the seating areas.
Grill 350 is the kind of place where you can relax with a craft beer and burger, or have something more ambitious such as the Grilled Skirt Steak–served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and a Chimichurri sauce–which is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
If in the mood for traditional, delicious comfort food with a stylish twist, a must-try is the Grilled Eggplant Rolatini, served on a bed of pasta with vodka sauce, fresh basil, and parmesan cheese. Another delicious dish is the Chicken Mole—a semi-boneless chicken breast served over a bed of Peruvian fried rice, with crispy sweet potatoes and appointed with both a Mole Chocolate sauce and a Creme white sauce which dance together on the plate and on your tongue. Folks who prefer fish will love the fresh Bronzino which is served filleted over creamy green chile rice, with a yellow pepper sauce and garnished with pineapple salsa.
Save some room so you can finish your meal with Upside Down Cheesecake, served with berries, whipped cream, and a vanilla sauce. Or for the chocolate lovers, there is the Molten Chocolate Lava Cake, served with a Dolce De Leche sauce, coffee ice cream, whipped cream and fresh berries.
Gina Palazzolo, General Manager, strives for Grill 350 to be a “respite from the craziness of life,” and has succeeded. Travis and the Weiss family have had a long history on this property—grandfather Mickey Weiss, who started work as a baker the day after he landed at Ellis Island, began baking on this premise in 1952 when it was known as The Goldman Hotel, and went on to become cook, then head chef, and eventually the general manager. In 2006 Travis’s dad, David, bought the property and Travis took over the on-site catering operation.
Grill350 is a restaurant and bar that is fun to be in, where you will find some creative takes on old favorites and discover dishes that are bound to become new favorites. They also have live music every Friday and Saturday as well as monthly events.
Definitely put it on your list of places to try!
