At B & Z Opticians, owner Ofer Steinberg, a licensed New Jersey optician, takes pride in “providing impeccable service and the ultimate experience in being fitted for the highest quality frames and lenses.”
B & Z sells glasses that fit every budget and showcases designer glasses and sunglasses at affordable prices. Steinberg carries a full line of designer eyewear, including Anne & Valentin, Lindberg, Tom Ford, Gucci, and l.a. Eyeworks, to name a few.
“Clients get the best looking and optically precise eyewear,” he says. He takes the time to get to know what the client is looking for and what fits their needs and lifestyle. Steinberg has an uncanny ability to suggest frames the client ultimately chooses and credits his keen visual perspective. “As I walk around the shop, I can visualize the shape of their face and recommend appropriate frames.”
Block and Zuckerman, as the business is formerly known, dates back to 1951. Steinberg purchased it in 2014 and relocated from West Orange to its current Livingston location in 2019. The owner unabashedly notes that B & Z and he have a following. The business has served three to four generations of clients. A word-of-mouth reputation has helped Steinberg to build his client base. He welcomes those new to Livingston and the surrounding community to stop in and peruse his wide selection of eyewear.
Steinberg began his career in the corporate optical industry and went on to manage private optical stores. He had a vision of creating the ideal optical boutique that focuses on exemplary customer service. He learned to excel in this aspect of owning a business by working in his parent’s luncheonettes. “I loved chatting with the customers,” he says.
A point of pride for Steinberg is that all the finishing work is done in-house. “I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands,” he notes. “I use the best quality and thinnest materials available and have the manual dexterity to produce lens perfection in the frame.” The optician hand-picks his staff. “I put them through a rigorous interview process because of the importance of customer care. My goal is to give impeccable service to others.” His objective has not gone unnoticed. B & Z Opticians has consistently been voted Best Optician in the Best of Essex Reader’s Choice Awards Contest, for the past six years.
Steinberg envisions other goals fueled by his innate motivation and desire to achieve more. He is on the cusp of designing his own line of frames. “We strive for excellence in everything we do, from edging the highest in lens technology to selecting the finest frames for each individual’s face.”
